SUMMARY
Operating a housing placement program in Larimer County, Colorado with connection to services for individuals receiving out-of-custody competency evaluation and restoration.

BACKGROUND
When competency clients are released from jail to be restored in the community, often they lack a housing plan and are at risk of homelessness.  Stable housing is a key barrier many competency-involved individuals face to be successfully restored in the community.   Justice system stakeholders can be reluctant to release a competency-involved defendant from custody if they face a high risk of homelessness.

ELEMENTS
Rapid re-housing case management, housing system navigation, transportation, case management, treatment coordination, bridge housing, and assistance with benefit acquisition.

PROGRAM STAFF
One housing specialist (1.0 FTE) and program manager (0.5 FTE)

CAPACITY
25 unique clients

ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES
Decrease in individuals who require admittance to the state hospital for competency restoration; Decrease in time to reach competency outcome; Increase in clients being placed in permanent housing.

STANDOUT ASPECTS
The focus of this program is on client housing.  Homelessness is a significant barrier to those who might otherwise be safely released from custody to engage in restoration services in the community.  This program also offers robust interventions along the continuum of housing (shelter, bridge housing, and permanent housing).

FUNDING
$217,800 for 18 months
