SUMMARY
Operating a competency dockets analysis program to provide training, awareness of resources, data collection, and evaluation support to specialized judicial programs throughout the state

BACKGROUND
Several judicial districts across the state have implemented specialized programs to handle competency cases.  Most often known as “competency dockets” these programs provide a forum wherein the legal parties, system stakeholders, and community providers can meet regularly to discuss the progress of clients, as they navigate through the competency restoration system.  These programs are not standardized, nor are they necessarily guided by best practices recommendations.  Prior to funding approval, the State Courts Administrator’s Office had no way to support or evaluate these programs throughout the state.
